Everything you need to feel prepared.
From finding an in-stock piece to caring for it at home, these are the questions clients ask most often before a private appointment.
01Are you a wig store I can walk into?
Design by Flora is a wig store in Teaneck, New Jersey, but it works by appointment rather than as a walk-in shop. The showroom holds a large in-stock collection you are welcome to try on, and booking simply means the room and Flora are yours for the visit instead of shared with whoever else came through the door. Call (201) 833-4060 and you can often be seen the same week.
02Do you have wigs available to purchase today?
Yes. The Teaneck showroom carries a large in-stock selection of wigs, Illusion Falls, and toppers. Availability changes, so call ahead if you have a particular style in mind.
03If I purchase a wig, can you cut and style it?
Yes. The first cut and style is included with a Design by Flora wig purchase. Chemical services are separate.
04How often should I wash a wig?
With regular use, wash your wig about once a month or after approximately 20 full days of wear. Your routine may vary based on styling products, weather, and activity.
05Where does the hair come from?
Design by Flora sources its hair from Eastern Europe.
06What is virgin hair?
Virgin hair is human hair that has not been dyed, bleached, permed, straightened, chemically treated, or otherwise processed.
07What is an Illusion Fall?
An Illusion Fall is a hair-enhancement or replacement piece that can provide full or partial coverage without the weight of a full wig. It can also be worn farther back as a topper.
08What is the difference between a hair topper and a wig?
A topper is a partial piece that sits on top of the head and clips into the hair you still have, covering a widening part, thinning crown, or diffuse thinning while the rest of your hair stays out. A full wig covers the whole scalp and does not depend on your own hair. A topper needs enough hair around the sides and back to anchor to and blend with, so which one suits you comes down to how much hair is left and where.
09Do you make sheitels?
Yes. Sheitel is the Yiddish word for the wig many married Orthodox Jewish women wear, and it describes the same piece. Design by Flora has worked from its Teaneck showroom since 2005 and the collection includes full sheitels, Illusion Falls, band falls, hat falls, and ponytail wigs, all in hand-selected European virgin human hair.
10What is a band fall or a hat fall?
A band fall is worn with a headband and a hat fall is worn with a hat, so a strip of your own hairline stays visible at the front while the piece supplies the length and fullness behind it. Both are lighter than a full sheitel and are popular for everyday wear.
11Can my wig be covered by insurance?
Sometimes. Many plans exclude a "wig" as cosmetic yet cover the same piece when a physician prescribes it for medical hair loss and it is documented as a cranial prosthesis. Design by Flora does not bill insurers directly, but provides an itemized invoice worded for your claim. See the cranial prosthesis page for the codes and paperwork involved.
12What kind of hair do you use?
Design by Flora pieces use hand-selected virgin human hair from Eastern Europe.
13How long does a custom wig order take?
A custom order generally takes six to eight weeks. The showroom also carries a broad in-stock collection, so a suitable piece may already be available.
14How long is a typical consultation?
A typical consultation lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. More time may be needed depending on your goals and the services you are considering.
